When you feel uncertain about yourself, the temptation can be to contract, to hide, to pull back.
In my experience, this sense of uncertainty happens most acutely when you’re stepping into new, bigger territory. And that expansion of territory–whether it’s personally or professionally requires an internal expansion to keep the ground.
I’ve had to face this sense of uncertainty and even inferiority again and again and again with each stage of Divine Time Management. This is the first time I’ve written a faith-based book and the most vulnerable I’ve ever been publicly (my heart is completely out there in my new book).
It’s been scary and hard at times. But every time I choose for courage and allow more and more of my true identity to shine forth, I feel more free and make a bigger positive impact.
The same can be true for you. You can experience more freedom and joy when you fight for your true identity in the midst of uncertainty instead of retreating. This is why the second section of my book is on “Love for Your True Identity.”
In my new book Divine Time Management, you’ll discover many strategies for knowing and loving your true identity. But here are two pieces of inspiration to get you started:
A quote by M. Scott Peck:
“By their openness, people dedicated to the truth live in the open, and through the exercise of their courage to live in the open, they become free from fear.”
Great wisdom from the founder of International Justice Mission:
You can be safe or you can be brave. You can’t be both. God’s goal is for us to grow in courage when faced with fears not to run from them.
You can watch him explain these thoughts more fully in this 1-minute video: Safety is Not the Antidote to Fear.
Get Bigger: When you feel tempted to contract in the face of attacks on who you are and what you’re called to do, do the opposite. Don’t retreat into smallness. The battle is meant to make you stronger. Push back and claim the fullness of your identity in Christ. You are more than victorious in Him and more than a conqueror, and you can win as you stand in that truth.
When I’m struggling in this area, I find it really helpful to listen to music that reminds me of my true identity and power in Christ. These are a few that may help you too:
You Will Win by Jekalyn Carr
Holy Ground by Passion
Each one of us has a special role to play in this world that only we can fulfill. Your life matters immensely. In my new book Divine Time Management, your can learn more about how to love your true identity so that you are free to expand into all the territory that God has for you.
If you’re interested in having support in the process of becoming all you were created to be, I highly recommend you join in the free, live 3-Part Class that I’ll be offering for all who buy the book by November 14.
