1.Think of something you hope to accomplish.
2. Imagine the feeling you will experience when you achieve #1.
3. Consider when you’d like to have accomplished #1.
Now here’s the question:
Which one of your answers is the goal?
Think carefully…
Most people would say #1– of course the goal is finishing my project or completing a graduate degree or being in a relationship.
But the true answer is #2. What you really want is the feeling that you believe you will experience from #1.
Interesting isn’t it?
So often we feel dissatisfied in life because we ignore alternative opportunities that could bring us to our desired feeling, or we accomplish something and realize that it didn’t create the internal state that we hoped to achieve.
I hope that this exercise frees you to think differently about your real goals for the rest of 2015.
